INTRODUCTION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES
The Department of Environmental Science and Natural Resource Management (College of Agriculture and Applied Biology) was established in 1996. In 2008, the College of Environmental Science and Natural Resources was founded, and the department was transferred from the College of Agriculture and Applied Biology to the College of Environmental Science and Natural Resources, where it was renamed the Department of Environmental Science (ES). In 2001, the department began offering a Master's degree program, and in 2010, it started a Ph.D. program in Soil and Water Environment.
The department was established to meet the demand for environmental research and education in the Mekong Delta, participating in the study of sustainable and rational management and utilization of natural resources. The department's functions include training Environmental Science engineers at the undergraduate level, Master's students in Environmental Science, and Ph.D. candidates specializing in Soil and Water Environment. The Environmental Science program is strong in scientific research, technology transfer, and applying science to address environmental issues, aiming to find solutions for pollution reduction and treatment, thereby contributing to environmental management and protection.
Each year, the department trains hundreds of environmental engineers who serve in state environmental management agencies, environmental consulting firms, and operate treatment systems in factories, enterprises, and industrial zones in the Western and Southeastern regions of Vietnam.
